Biography

Saumyakanti Khatua did his B.Sc in Chemistry from RKM Vidyamandira Belur Math, University of Calcutta. Then he received his M.Sc degree from IIT Bombay in 2006. During his masters he developed interest in spectroscopy while working with Prof. Anindya Datta. Next, he moved to Rice University, USA, where he worked with Prof Stephan Link on single particle/molecule spectroscopy. He then continued his research as a Postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof Michel Orrit in Leiden University, Netherlands. Then he shifted back to India to start his independent career at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar in 2015. At IITGN, he has set up his own optics and spectroscopy lab equipped with state-of-the-art home-built inverted confocal microscope which enables study of metal nanoparticle driven chemistry at single particle level. Apart from research, he also teaches various undergraduate and graduate level courses at IITGN.
